On their 8th birthday children shouldn’t be given their first cell phone

In my opinion I truly believe that “On their 8th birthday children shouldn't be given their first cell phone. These are my 3 main reasons to support my argument.

Young

I think if the child has a cell phone they can download social media or apps related to social media without their parents knowing. They don't know whether if they are too young to be using apps like social media because remember they only young and 8 years old. Also another reason is if the kid only wants to have a cell phone to play games on it the parent could have it on their phone or their parent could take control of what apps their child downloads on their own cell phone. If the child’s parent only gave them a cell phone to call their parents after school to pick them up or if they're at a friends house and want their parents to pick them up. They could just ask the teacher or the office because most likely they will have their parents cell phone number and friends parent will too. But also by the age of eight the child should start knowing one of their parents cell phone number off by heart because it’s important to know your parent’s cell phone number. Lastly a 8 year old child should be playing sports or outside because that’s what a normal 8 year old child does, they will also become lazy and not do anything if they have a cell phone.

Safety

Furthermore, with social media and apps on the child’s phone they could put every single important detail about them on the internet which is not safe because anyone can see it and the details would be very personal to the child without the child knowing it's not really safe.They could put their phone number, home address,what country they live in or even what school they go to. That is definitely not safe because anyone could see what they have put on the internet cause anything you put on the internet means the whole world can see it.

Another important thing is that anything you put on the internet anyone can see it and save it so if you take it off later it’s pretty much still there.

Cyber Bullying

My third and final reason is since children are young at the age of eight and most unlikely don't know what cyber bullying actually is they could get cyber bullied without knowing that they are getting cyberbullied. For a child to get cyberbullied at the age of 8 is quite young because that is a young age to have social media. The internet is not the safest and nicest place because there are mean people on the internet and if the 8 year old child has social media and put pictures or their details on the internet they could get mean comments, messages or even emails. Also the comments, message or emails could have bad language in it like swearing and then the child might learn the bad language and go around saying the bad language. If the child sees the messages or comments they might think it's alright but it’s not and cyber bullying is a serious thing.

Conclusion

Without a doubt I strongly believe that on their 8th birthday, children shouldn’t be given their first cellphone. I hope my 3 main reasons persuaded you to think on the same side of the argument as me and not against me.

I have wrote a persuasive writing to show that "Children Should Not Get Paid Pocket Money For Doing Jobs. I have decided to share my 3 main reasons why "Children Should Not Get Paid Pocket Money For Doing Jobs, Is because I want to share my side of the argument and I want to persuade you to agree with me and think the same.

Introduction

I strongly believe that children should not get paid pocket money for doing jobs. Here are my 3 main reasons that support my argument.

Value For Money

Firstly, children need to learn the value of money and that money doesn’t grow on trees and that you need to earn money by doing hard work. When children get older and start earning money they will not learn how to save their money and they might spend it on frivolous things. Children will expect money all the time and think that money is a normal thing.

Family Values

Secondly, another important thing is Family Values.  It's unfair if parents have to give money to their children for doing everyday things like making their beds every day, washing the dishes, cleaning their room etc. Doing all those jobs are a part of being part of a family. If they get paid for doing everyday jobs children will not learn to do those things when they are older and no one will be there to pay them.

Children Are Not Responsible Enough

Lastly, I think that children are not responsible enough to take care of their own money. They might buy inappropriate things like R16 games etc. Children might get in trouble with matters of money with no parent supervision and also the parent might never find out what their child has bought with their own pocket money.

Conclusion
In my opinion, I believe that children should not get pocket money for doing jobs.  Parents, you should remember that you can't show your love to your children by giving them money.  You could spend quality time with your child\children if they have done all their jobs and have been good like going out for ice cream , having a bike ride together etc.  I hope you are persuaded and think the same as me.

Camp Omatua 2016

Kayaks was one of my favourite things I did at camp. I was scared the first time because I have  never been kayaking before.	Here is picture of me wrapped in my towel out of the river because the river is freezing!
I am Kayaking for the first time in this photo and as you can see from my face I look really scared.	This is me coming out of the crazy slide. This was one of my favorite slides because it is really scary but at the same time it's fun:)

Passion Blog - Nail Art With Steps

Do you remember when I did a passion blog and I told you that I had two passions and they were quite girly but they were hairstyles and nail art.   Mrs Miller is so kind that she gave everyone another chance to do a passion blog again, so thank you Mrs Miller.   Today I will be sharing my passion which is nail art - step by step.

1. First step is to get an aqua green and paint it on your thumb and little finger which is of course is your last finger.
2. Then for your second finger you need a nice pink, not that dark and not that light just perfect.
3. For your middle finger and 3rd finger you need to paint it white, let it dry because we are going to put on some detail.
4. For your thumb, last finger and second finger you need to get a thin nail polish brush and dip in black nail polish and put a little dot on your fingers that you are supposed to do
5. For your middle finger and and 3rd finger that you have painted white you will need to do this leopard type of design, it will be hard, so practice on a piece of paper. 
6. First on your middle finger you will need to put 5 green spots on the bottom and then kind of do brackets around them with black nail polish if you don't know what brackets are - here they are ( )
7. Now for step 7, our last lucky step, on your 3rd finger do the exactly same but you just need to put 5 pink spots on your 3rd finger and brackets just like you did for your middle finger

My Passion Blog Term 3 Week 10

This week Mrs Miller said that we can do our own choice passion blog and I was really excited about this to share what my passion is. Well my passion actually is quite girly - I have got two passions. 
Number one is making hairstyles and number two is doing nail art. But I actually like making hairstyles more so I will give you step by steps how to do a fishtail braid, this is my favorite hairstyle to do in the summer time.

1. Number one is to put your hair into a high ponytail.
2. Then put your hair into two sections.
3. Now get the right piece and cross it over the left section.
4. Then get the left piece and and cross it over the right section.
5. Then get the right piece again and cross it over the left section. 
6. Then get the left section and cross it over the right section.
7. Keep on doing it when you want to stop and put your hair tie on.
8. Its a really easy hairstyle but it looks really difficult.

Term 3 Week 7 Art Trail

Last week, Kauri Hub, which is my hub, went to an Art Trail. Also, a fun bonus thing we got to do was that we got to go to the Art Gallery. 
In my group there was, Henrietta's mum, Henrietta, Briar and Lake. We were in Mr Kenny's group. First, we had to do the Art trail, then when we were finished we would go to the art gallery. I think it was good that we got to do the art trail first and then go to the art gallery because we would be tired walking around town, by going to the art gallery second, we could rest. 
First, our question was to  name all the birds on the wall by the court house. I can't remember all of them but I can remember the first one which was name all the birds. Then, when we finished the art trail it was time to go to the art gallery. When we were in the art gallery this lady came and told us the rules. My favorite thing in the art gallery was the hands beat, what you had to do was there was this box thing and you have to move your hands and it will make a beat. After we looked at all the things we went back to school. I had a great day.

Week 7 Term 3 Driftwood Art

Driftwood Art

This is what my word looks like

My class, Room12 did some driftwood art for the art exhibition. We were inspired by Jack Marsden Mayer. He makes animal art out of driftwood. So we made our own driftwood names. The day we were going to do it Mrs Miller said that you needed to think of a name for your driftwood art. Mine was Livy so I collected all the driftwood that I needed. So then I sat down and started to make my name. But It didn't turn out right so I thought of sky.I found this super cool S and Y already made. The S was made out of bamboo tree. The Y was just normal driftwood. For the K I just had to find 3 pieces of driftwood, one long and two short ones. Once I had made my word I showed Mrs Miller and she took a photo of it. Then it was time to glue my word together. Then a few day's later we had to tie a string onto our driftwood.


Jack Mardsen Mayer

His name is Jack Mardsen Mayer, he's from Manchester, England but he lives in New Zealand. He attended Gordonstoun International School where he studied sculpture. He has been working with driftwood since he arrived in New Zealand 2008!

Term 3 Week 4: Pets Should Not Be Allowed At School!!

WALT persuade other students to agree with our opinion.  This is the purpose for my writing.

Success Criteria:

1. I plan for a writing task
2. I write a variety of sentence lengths with different sentence starters
3. Give reasons with detail - use specific words
4. I write most topic and high frequency words correctly.
5. I use capital letters, fullstops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly.
6. Use persuasive language

We Should Not Allow Pets In Our School!!

In my opinion I think no school should allow pets!

I strongly believe that your pets could get lost if you are playing with your friends and then you realise that your pet has run away from you!! Another point is you would also be wasting your learning time, if your class and you are looking for your pet.  Another reason is that your pet can jump through any classroom window while you might be talking to your friends. You might not even know what classroom your pet may be in or the classroom may be locked!

Some of the kids might be allergic to pets and they could get really sick and the parents would not like their child to go to the hospital! If the kid might be allergic to pets they could also get really itchy and have really bad rashes. For example  they may be learning and they could get so itchy that they could bleed?

Also kids sometimes can get distracted really fast if they like the thing that would distract them like pets. Instead of learning they could be playing with the pet the whole time or just may be  looking at the pet the whole time. Finally when their teacher gives them a learning sheet to do they won’t know what to do?

You should agree with me that pets should not be allowed at school.

Term 2 Reflection.

This is a Term 2 Reflection about Rippa Rugby!!

I enjoyed Rippa Rugby this year so much because it was my first time playing it and I really enjoyed it. I chose to play Rippa Rugby because I always play Rippa Rugby with my brother and sister. The good thing was that this game had no tackling so you were not allowed to tackle anyone or you would be disqualified. I think I would love to play Rippa Rugby next year. I think the exciting thing that happened was that my group won the semi final. 

Week 11: Things That I Enjoy Doing!!

I like to do lots of stuff that I enjoy so I will be telling you all the things that I enjoy doing. I have told you 6 things that I enjoy doing. Number 5 and Number 2 are my most favorite things that I enjoy.

1. I love to read books, I will tell you some of my favorite books I like to read - Roald Dahl, The Twits, Harry Potter and Wonder.
2. I also like girly things so I am really good at painting nails, I can paint both of my hands but I actually am a righty, I also love to learn new hairstyles -the braids that I know how to do are, French Braid, Chinese Braid, Ponytail, Plait and Fishtail.
3. I love to go outside in my back yard and do some tricks on my monkey bars or swing set, even the slide. But I always end up getting hurt no matter what. 
4. I enjoy spending time with my family in winter and watching a movie. Also my favorite season of the year is actually winter. 
5. Since the holidays are coming, dad said that my family and I will go and play with the snow. I enjoy playing in snow.
6. I also enjoy having a pillow fight with my siblings. My brother is the oldest, and then it is my sister so I am the little one. But I am still tough and I always end up having an argument.

Week 10: Matariki Day

Matariki

Poi Making

Yesterday it was Matariki day which means means Monday the 15th. My hub is Kauri Hub, we got to do lots of fun stuff but we were only allowed to choose two things, one before morning tea and after morning tea. But after lunch the Kahurangi dance people came in and taught us maori games. There was hand games, String making and Maori Knuckle Bones.
My two activities I chose was Poi Making and Weaving Matariki Stars.
I did Poi Making before morning tea so that means I did it in the morning. Of course I did Matariki Stars after Morning Tea. 
So for Poi Making our teacher was Emma, I know Emma from last year because her daughter is my friend. So the first step was to make the 4 plait and the colours were green and white. We could do two types of different plaits, there was this 4 plait you could do or a fishtail. I chose the fishtail because the fishtail is a plait you can do for your hair and I know how to do a fishtail. So when we were finished plaiting we got some newspaper and tied that in a knot with the string. After that, we got this fluffy thing and put that over the newspaper. We got a plastic bag and put it over the fluffy thing. Then we cut off the rest plastic bag and then our poi was made. 
Then we just learnt how to do some actions with the poi, we also sang a song, it was fun making poi’s.
Weaving Matariki Stars 
After morning tea my activity was weaving matariki stars. I think I found that it was really tricky, I thought that I would do two matariki stars but actually I could only do one. The first thing that we did was we got 4 coloured strips of paper. I don’t remember what colors I got. I wish I had the instructions because I don't remember how to make one. But if I had the instructions I would still need help and practice over and over again to make sure how to make one without instructions.

Week 8: My New Hairstyle!!

My New Hairstyle

On Sunday I got a new haircut. First I will be telling you how my old hair looked like. My old hair was not that fancy, it was really long and I really liked it long. So then I thought I need to cut my hair a little bit and make it really fancy. I went to the Hair shop and told them what I wanted and how I wanted them to cut my hair.  I really liked how they cut it. So what they did was they first cut a little bit of my hair from the bottom, it is still long and I love it. Then this is the part of my hair which I think is quite fancy. So they cut two long parts of my hair from the front and it looks really cool. Here are some photos of my new hairstyle.

Week 6: Area

In Room 12 we have been learning about Area, it is quite fun to learn about Area so I will tell you all about it.
First of all the most important thing to remember is Rows and Columns, I used to get mixed up with rows and columns, but there is a trick to remember and Mrs Miller told room 12 that trick. Rows mean right across and columns mean come on down. The definition is to count the total number of square units inside a shape. The other day we did a really fun activity and we had to pack up the classroom and get our own chairs and we made it as a plane.  When Mrs Miller told us she wanted us to be in 4 rows and 5 columns we put 5 chairs right across and then we had 5 columns. Then we had to figure out the maths of the plane.

Maths: 4=Rows 5=columns
             4x5=20

If you count carefully you will see 20 square units

So that means the plane had 20 chairs.

Week 4: The Summarising Strategy

The Summarising Strategy

In Room 12 we have been learning about the summarising strategy, so I'm going to tell you some facts. If you copy someones work which means like there own book or writing that is called plagiarism. 
First of all I'm going to tell you about Key Words.  
Key Words are just some words that help you make up a sentence. 
Here is an example - I wil give you some key words about Little Red Riding Hood.

Example: 

Key Words: Little Red Riding Hood, Big Bad Wolf, Grandma

When Little Red Riding Hood was going to her Grandma's house she met the Big Bad Wolf.

(The words in the blue are my key words that I used)

Week 3: My Matchstick Name

Last week, my class and I tried to make our name out of 50 matchsticks. The first time we tried, it was a bit hard for some of us so we tried it the second time. 
The second time we tried, most of us got it, but we forgot to take the picture of our names. 
The third time we tried it, everyone got it right. 
There were two options you could choose to do but you had to do it with 50 matchsticks. 
The first option you could choose to do was you could make your name 1 metre long, or you could make your name 20cm tall.   
I chose to make my name 20cm tall.  My name has 4 letters in it, so I had 3 or 2 matchsticks left and we had to use all of our 50 matchsticks and the good thing was that we could overlap, I had to overlap because I only had a few matchsticks left.. I went well with my other letters which were L-I-V, but when I tried the Y, it was a bit hard and I had to do the Y about two times and then I got the Y perfect.
Our main part of learning was about learning how to measure properly. Our criteria was to make our name accurately. The way we measured accurately was that we used rulers.
We also tried to work out the total value of our names. 
The way we worked out the total value of our name was that Mrs Miller gave us a sheet and it had how much the colours cost us.
